Australia To China: We Sell Coal And University Degrees

University Degrees For SaleLet’s cut through the bull, shall we? Australia is selling university degrees, especially to China and Chinese students. Hang on! Isn’t that what educational providers are supposed to do? No. They are supposed to sell education and REWARD a degree. They are supposed to reward a degree when the students prove that they DID get educated, that they INDEED learned what they claimed they had come here for. University degrees are not sold, they are rewarded.

University degrees on sale!

Over the past few years, I have seen a number of institutions selling degrees particularly to Chinese students. It is not like selling a TV set or a microwave but rather allowing the students to abuse the system. Yes, abuse it. Universities and colleges are having to bow to pressure, the pressure of surviving the competition that is. The money is there to be made, and the question is, who can lower the bar enough for the Chinese agents and students to get their business. For the Chinese students, rules are there to be broken. Low attendance? No worries mate! Work rights? No worries mate! Low score? No worries mate. Plagiarism (clever plagiarism)? No worries mate! Nothing is off limits for those guys. Well, they’ve got the dough. Anything is possible.

Not only degrees are for sale in Australia. Farms, lands, houses etc anything that the money can buy is on sale! Everything MUST go. Look, I’m not racist. I actually do not blame the Chinese people. I know many Chinese and they are phenomenal people but the ones who come down under shopping for university degrees and college certificates or PR (permanent residency), well I’m not really that fond of. China is not sending its brightest to Australia. I’m not saying they are sending the dumbest either but they have no interest or motivation for learning whatsoever.

Here’s the thing. Chinese parents FORCE their children to come to Australia because they are too embarrassed with them and their school or academic performance. Their children’s grades are not good enough to get into a reputable Chinese university, so they get them out of there and send them off to Australia. At least, it’s an English-speaking country and as we all know, any degree or certificate from a Western educational institution is better than nothing, especially if the college has some corny British name like York, Oxford, Cambridge, Queen etc. Most Chinese would not have a clue how terrible or even small those colleges are, they are just fooled by the name. I mean come on! How bad can Oxford be?
What kills me is that Australia is playing along. The educational industry is run by hypocrites! They promote top quality and high standards, but turn the blind eye when they have to. Yes, just like with the Chinese students, they’re too rich to risk upsetting right?

Shame on you Australia! Come clean! You owe it to your domestic students. They already have to put up with international students who can’t write a decent introduction of an essay or deliver the opening of a presentation. Yes you owe it to them.
