Part 3 of the 8 must-know phrasal verbs is pretty short, yet very important as all the other verbs. Practice, practice and practice.
3-I’m out…(out/out of/out on)
I’m out of luck!
=
I don’t have any luck.
Can you guess what these mean then?
I’m out of gas. OR I’m out of money? OR I’m out of time?
but if I use “out of” before a place, the meaning is not the same…
I’m out of the office at the moment!
=
I’m not in the office/I’m not available now.
I Now just say “here” AFTER “out of”
I’m out of here
=
I’m leaving/I don’t want to stay here anymore.
Example: A: How about one last game? B: No I’m out of here, it’s too late man.
Many young native speakers joke a lot with the “I’m out” sentence. Some jokes are pretty rude but they’re supposed to be. That’s pure slang. The idea is to make it sound odd and funny. Here are some examples, but PLEASE DON’T HATE ME:
out like a fat kid in dodgeball
out like a blind kid in musical chairs
out like Janet Jackson’s right nipple
out like a white guy in a jumping contest
out like handicap parking at the special Olympics
out like your mom in a beauty pageant
You don’t think that’s funny?
Are you out of your mind?! (are you crazy?)
