What is Native English Speech Training (NEST)?

Whether in person or online, Patrick’s training focuses on the features of native English speech using his BBR (Block, Build, Rewire) method. There are generally 7 key features (we’re combining phonemes and IPA below) targeted in the training as follows:

Phonemes and IPA

Phoneme and IPA

There are two groups of phonemes, consonants and vowels. Each of the around 44-45 phonemes is represented by an International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

The Schwa Sound

Schwa sound

That is the most common vowels in the English language, a vowel whose location is so important to identify for English learners wanting to speak clear, fluent and natural English.

Word Stress

Word stress

That relates to which part of the word should be stressed when the word consists of 2 or more syllables. That affects clarity and rhythm of your English speech.

Sentence Stress

Sentence stress

That relates to which word(s) in the sentence should be stressed to produce proper rhythm. That is essential to learn to communicate clearly and effectively especially where persuasion is necessary.

Pitch Movement

Sentence stress

That relates to how we use our voice pitch and change our tone to convey feelings and emotions; another important feature in speech that could make it super impactful and powerful.

Connected Speech

Connected Speech

That relates to how we connect or join the words together to speak faster, smoother and more naturally. Without word linking, you sound robotic and some people may find your speech tiresome to follow.

What is Patrick Hayeck’s BBR method?

The BBR method uses a highly intensive error correction technique to:

BLOCK

Block old speaking habits

Block the interference and impact of the learner’s first language on English speech. The learner’s first language hinders (slows or gets in the way) while we’re speaking or listening to English.

BUILD

Build new speaking habits

Build new speaking habits for the learners by providing very detailed instructions on the mouth muscles’ position and movement and using repetition and feedback on each repetition.

REWIRE

Rewire your brain

Rewire the learners’ brain by expanding their working memory and improving their phonological awareness so that they’re able to easily, effortlessly and accurately process native speech

The feeling in the morning is very quiet, some students came, and then teacher came and stay at his table, and then he says hello to us, and that is the time I feel I met the ocean, stronger, powerful, and practice, practice, practice until I can speak English clearly.

Phat – Vietnam

You just need the 3 Ps, Passion, Practice and Patrick not to just improve your English but also to change your life. Saori – Japan

Most people ask me “how long have you been speaking English for”, and that after just 6 weeks. Eri – Japan

The reason I came to Australia was Patrick…My senior told me about Patrick and his course, I was so surprised and impressed about the method, the next thing I did, I booked my flight…anyway, I bet my bottom dollar, Patrick, he is the best. Tomohiro – Japan
